Shadows
   To the Celts, the Teutons, and the Slavs the shadow appears to have corresponded to the Ka or Ba of Egyptian religion. The English term ‘shade’ for a ghost arises from this. In the Tyrol a feast of the shadows was held every spring to celebrate the final defeat of winter. The peasants assume the masks of the shadows who seek to protect winter from the invasion of spring.
